AAswanley is in the upper Deveron Valley, an hour west of Aberdeen. The 17th century fortified house stands in the centre of an estate, that offers a tremendous variety of sport appropriate to the type of habitat from heather and woods down to the arable land by the river. This is a wonderful estate for those looking for a mixture of activities.
Accommodation
The cottages offer flexibility. A secluded retreat for 2 or for a party of over 20. Catering can be organized. Jocky Milne's sleeps 2, Straitinnan 4, Wester Park and Wester Bodylair 6, Easter Farm 7 + 1. Jocky Milne's is a secluded and romantic croft tucked away in the woods with wonderful views overlooking the valley. Hidden yet within walking distance of Wester Park and the top beats of the river. Easter Farm is a spacious farmhouse overlooking the bottom beats of the river and about 200 yards from Straitinnan. Straitinnan and Wester Bodylair each have attractive sun conservatories with views over lochan and hills..
Fishing
Approximately two miles of double bank and two miles single bank fly only fishing with ample water for up to eight rods on one of the prettiest stretches of the River Deveron, often quoted as the "hidden gem" of Scottish Salmon rivers. August, September and October are the most productive months, excellent brown trout, dry fly, and wet fly from May onwards.
Shooting
The estate has established a reputation for excellent sporting partridges during September and October and can offer mixed sporting weeks to include driven and walked up days. Also available driven pheasants, mixed days, chance at a grouse, duck flights and rabbits galore.
Grouse and Claret : half days / full days
Simulated game days are now a feature of the Estate. "Grouse", "Pheasant" and "Partridge" drives are organized for parties of up to 16. Grouse butts on the hill with "coveys" coming from different angles and the ability to shoot in front and behind can give a buzz to the most experienced and provide a good grounding for those starting out. Lunch after in the steading at Aswanley in front of the Baronial fire.
Stalking
Roe Deer stalking in early morning and evening with keeper. Potential for excellent heads - Gold Medal 2007.
