Atholl Estates comprise 50,000 hectares of farmland, woodland and moorland in the heart of highland Perthshire. The estates are centred around historic Blair Castle, ancestral seat of the Dukes of Atholl, and are within one and half hour's drive of both Edinburgh and Glasgow.
There are five sporting beats providing a mixture of sporting opportunities to suit all tastes. Bookings can be arranged either for larger parties on a weekly basis, together with self-catering lodge accommodation, or on a daily basis.
Stalking
Atholl has long been known for the quality of its red stag stalking, although hinds and roe deer are also available. Ponies are used in the traditional way to retrieve deer from the hills wherever possible, and all stalking guests are accompanied by an estate stalker.
Shooting
Walked up red grouse shooting is available on the higher moorland beats and is usually let as part of a package along with accommodation. Parties can be accommodated during November and December for rough game shooting amongst the woods and farmland of the lower ground of the estates.
Fishing
Salmon fishing is available on the rivers Garry, Tummel and Tilt. Together, these fishings provide an excellent contrast of water and scenery from the calmer stretches of the Lower Tummel to the dramatic spate waters of the Tilt. Each beat can accommodate up to three rods and a fishing ghillie is available by separate arrangement. Wild brown trout hill loch fishing is also available.
Old Blair
Located in the hamlet of Old Blair, the lodge was originally built as an inn on the Old North Road and is situated just a few hundred yards from Blair Castle. It sits amongst a landscape of policy parklands and woodland gorges and is also only a short walk from the bridge at Blair Atholl. The house has recently been substantially refurbished, and is an ideal base for an active family holiday. The accommodation comprises drawing room with open fire, dining room, fully equipped kitchen and utility room, a sitting room with television and video and a double bedroom with en-suite shower. The first and second floors provide four twin bedrooms, one with en-suite facilities, two single bedrooms and two further bathrooms.
Glen Bruar Lodge
Glen Bruar Lodge is located in its own wild and rugged glen, and is reached by a 9 mile private road accessed from Calvine. Being in the heart of an area of dramatic hills and moorland, it provides suitable accommodation for groups of up to 18 people engaging in all outdoor pursuits, and is a classic example of a highland sporting lodge. A small hill loch, suitable for brown trout fishing, is situated just a few hundred yards from the lodge. The accommodation provides drawing room, dining room, small sitting room, three double bedrooms, five twin bedrooms, two single bedrooms and three bathrooms, fully fitted kitchen, drying room and gun room.
Each lodge is let on a self-catering basis and is fully equipped although cooking services can be provided. Heating, electricity and a full linen service are all included as well as Internet Wi-Fi connection.
