Accommodation

A classic slate-clad sporting lodge built by the Duke of Sutherland in the 1870s, Hope Lodge has magnificent views along Loch Hope towards Ben Hope, 8 miles to the south. There are eight bedrooms - 2 double, 2 twin (1 with ensuite bath) 4 single and 2 further bathrooms. Downstairs there are a drawing room and dining room, both with open fires, a games room, large drying room and gun room. The house can accommodate up to 12 in comfort. For larger parties, it may be possible to take one of two nearby cottages also (see below).

Sport

With 22,000 acres of its own, and exclusive arrangements with adjacent estates giving access to over 50,000 acres of ground, Hope is an all-round sporting estate with salmon and sea trout fishing, stalking, walked-up grouse, duck flighting and woodcock shooting in the appropriate seasons. And with miles of wild coastline to explore, this is also a wonderful area for walkers and naturalists.

The fishing includes the River Hope for three rods and a boat for 2 rods on Loch Hope, as well as several hill lochs for wild brown trout.

We can offer a limited number of weeks, mainly in the early and late seasons (April / May and September / October) with occasional availability during the high season.

Loch Hope Fishings

With 11 boats at three mooring locations, Loch Hope is reckoned by many to offer the finest sea trout fishing in Scotland. We're now taking bookings for the 2010 season. Boats can be taken at the North End, Middle Bay or South End, on daily or weekly lets.
Hope is a big loch, nearly 6 miles long and with productive fishing areas in much of its length either dapping or wet fly. It averages upwards of 500 sea trout per season, as well as useful numbers of salmon and grilse. Up-to-date availability is shown on the Loch Hope website, where you can also see an annotated fishing map and much other useful information.

The Cottages

Whether as part of a Loch fishing package or just as a holiday base either of Hope's two cottages can accommodate up to five people in comfort.

The Ferryman's Cottage is in a beautiful spot at the North End of the Loch, with 3 bedrooms (double, twin and single): a cosy sitting/dining room with a log fire, bathroom, and a utility room with freezer and washing machine. The Shepherd's Cottage, further up the hill near the Lodge, is rather more spacious, with four bedrooms (two doubles, twin and single) a kitchen/dining room and a sitting room.
