Langwell is a wonderful all-round West Coast Sporting Estate lying between Ullapool and Braemore junction, and should not be confused with the estate of the same name at Berriedale in Sutherland. Although situated on the West Coast, Langwell is very accessible, being just over an hour from Inverness, and fifteen minutes north of Ullapool.
Langwell extends over 15,000 acres, and comprises a comfortable traditional farmhouse style lodge sleeping 8-10, and a lovely mix of sport including fishing on most of the River Kanaird – a beautiful little salmon and sea trout spate river, a myriad of brown trout hill lochs, walked up grouse over pointers, and exciting West Coast stalking for Red Deer.
In addition to the main house, Glen Cottage sleeping 6, is also available, and is popular with smaller hind stalking parties.
Accommodation
Langwell Lodge provides very comfortable accommodation in 2 double and 6 twin bedrooms but is restricted to sleeping 8-10. On the ground floor there is a sitting room with open fire, dining room which seats up to maximum 10, kitchen with oil fired aga, drying room and gun room which can be used as a breakfast room.
Fishing
The River Kanaird is a spate river. Langwell Estate has salmon fishing for up to 6 rods in good water over approximately one mile of fishing, both banks from Loch a Chroisg downstream. Lots of trout fishing on Loch a Chroisg and other hill lochs.
Stalking
There is stalking available from late August with up to 6 stags being taken each week.
Other Activities
This is a wonderful area for walking and bird watching with A'Chailleach, Sgurr Mor and Stac Pollaidh nearby. The beaches of Gruinard and Achiltibuie are unforgettable. Boat trips to the Summer Isles and the ferry to Stornoway leave daily from Ullapool. A 9 hole golf course and indoor swimming pool can also be found in Ullapool.
