The River Inver - Estate Info

The River Inver is split into 5 beats, each fishing two rods, and the river offers wild and unspoilt salmon and sea-trout fishing in the North West of Sutherland. It is some of Scotland’s most spectacular countryside and there few finer places to cast a fly.

The River is approximately 6 miles in length and flows out of Loch Assynt. In the early part of the century, the exit at Loch Assynt was dammed in order to control the flow of water into the river and this stored water is of enormous benefit for summer fishing. In recent years, a lot of improvement work has been carried out, particularly to the lower river, and this includes jetties, groynes and walkways. This has created better holding water and made the pools more accessible.
Fishing on the Inver is by fly only, the season runs from 11th February to 15th October, the first fish generally run in April but it is June that runs of fish build. In the right conditions late June and July can offer wonderful sport with fresh grilse running on every tide and then, as the river fills with residents, fishing can be superb until season end.
Located in the small town of Lochinver, around 30 miles from Ullapool.

The River Inver - Sport

All beats fish two rods. Bookings are taken for single days and full weeks.

Upper Beat
The Upper Beat starts at the sluice gates at the lower end of Loch Assynt and finishes where the burn from Loch Badnam Aighean enters the river at the west end of the Battlefield Pool. The Beat includes Loch Garbhe Uidhe and Loch An Iasgaich, the latter reputedly the best holding pool on the river. In addition to the two lochs there are two pools on the stretch of river between the two lochs. The Beat lies alongside the A837 and is easily accessible from the road side. A boat is available on Loch An Iasgaich.

Middle Beats
The Upper Middle Beat starts at the Grilse Burn and continues down to the Upper Bridge. The Lower Middle Beat runs from below the Upper bridge to the Long Pool.

Lower Beats
The Lower Beats are two, 2 rod beats, and the parties switch at lunch. The rods fishing the upper in the morning will therefore fish the lower in the afternoon. Those on the lower in the morning will move the upper in the afternoon. The Top Lower Beat has 8 pools and runs from the Whirl down to and including the Scramble.  The Bottom Lower Beat comprises 13 pools from the Cow Pool to the Carpenters Pool.
